Chatham Islands
The Chatham Islands are located about 840km off the coast of Christchurch, New Zealand, and has a population of 600. The islands are hilly with coasts being a varied mixture including cliffs, dunes, beaches and lagoons. The two inhabited areas are the islands of Chatham and Pitt with other smaller islands being used for conservation reserves with restricted zones. The Chatham Islands climate has an oceanic climate which includes low temperatures and frequent rainfall given its remoteness and distance from equator.
The Chatham Island's economy is driven by Fishing and Adventure Tourism.
The area is administered by one Unitary Authority; the Chatham Islands Council.
